ChatGPT by OpenAI Regains Web Browsing Capabilities with Enhanced Features

OpenAI has reintroduced browsing capabilities to ChatGPT, allowing it to access information beyond its last training data of September 2021. Exclusively available to Plus and Enterprise users via GPT-4, the feature utilizes an extension named 'Browser with Bing', powered by Microsoft's AI. ChatGPT, which can now also interact with images and offer voice responses in five different tones, had previously rolled out web browsing for iOS users but had to retract it due to misuse related to paywalled content. Microsoft Introduces AI-Driven Paint Cocreator in Windows 11

Microsoft is updating its Paint app in Windows 11 for Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channel, introducing the AI-powered Paint Cocreator. This feature, leveraging DALL-E, allows users to generate artwork directly within the Paint app. Found in the Cocreate section of the menu bar, users will need to join a waitlist using their Microsoft Account to access this. After signing up, they receive 50 credits to start creating images, with each generated image costing one credit. To design an image, users describe their vision in words and select a style. The AI then presents three versions, and users can choose one for their canvas. Microsoft ensures content filtering for safety and currently offers Cocreator in select countries in English. As for wider availability, it might take weeks to months, depending on user feedback. Additionally, Microsoft recently rolled out other features in Windows 11, including the AI-backed Copilot assistant.

Google Partners with Indian Authorities to Launch Android Earthquake Alert System

To address India's vulnerability to earthquakes, Google has launched its Android Earthquake Alerts System in the country. This system, which uses smartphone sensors to detect and estimate seismic activities, is already functional in several nations. In collaboration with India’s National Disaster Management Authority and the National Centre for Seismology, the tool will be available for all Android users in India with version 5 or above in the coming week. Through Google Search, the system will provide information about local tremors and safety measures. Android will notify users about significant earthquakes, differentiating between light shaking (Be Aware Alert) and moderate to heavy shaking (Take Action Alert). Users with Android 5 or higher can activate these alerts through their device settings, ensuring they have Wi-Fi or cellular data and location settings enabled.

Google Rolls Out "Google-Extended" to Control Bard and Vertex AI Access via Robots.txt

Google has launched "Google-Extended," a product token allowing web publishers to determine if their content can be accessed by Google's Bard and Vertex AI tools. This development follows a public discussion initiated by Google in July to discuss web content control. Google-Extended lets website administrators decide if they wish to enhance the accuracy and capability of these AI models over time. To prevent Google-Extended from accessing site content, publishers can make adjustments in the robots.txt file. Notably, 242 of the top 1,000 sites have blocked OpenAI's GPTBot since its August debut. This move aims to give publishers more transparency and control as AI applications grow. However, there's debate about the effectiveness of using robots.txt for AI data management.
